Fishers Foods to Close After 92 Years; Final Day of Operations October 14

Canton, Ohio — September 30, 2025

Fishers Foods today announced that the company’s last remaining store will close on
Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

“Ending a 92-year chapter is one of the hardest decisions our family will ever make,”
said Alex Fisher, fourth generation Vice President. “Fishers began in 1933 as a single
neighborhood market in Canton. Generations of families grew up with us just as our
own family grew up in the aisles. This isn’t how we imagined the story ending. But after
92 years, it’s the right decision for our family and our team.”

“The grocery business has changed dramatically, just like many industries these days
between shopping habits, extreme rising costs and the dominance of national chains
and online retailers have completely reshaped the landscape,” Fisher said. “There is no
singular cause. We’re focused on honoring our people and customers and closing the
right way.”

“While we had hoped to cement our future in a new project, it ultimately didn’t come to
fruition,” Fisher continued. “Our team, myself and the countless help of others pushed
and pursued every avenue to make this work. In the end, it simply isn’t sustainable.”
Fishers is working with the local union coordinating a wind down. “Our associates, many
with decades of service, deserve our sincerest thanks and respect,” Fisher added."

Closing Sale

A store closing sale will begin Wednesday, October 1st and continue through the final
day of operations on Tuesday, October 14. All grocery, frozen, dairy, and general
merchandise will be 30% off, with additional discounts in meat and produce. Discounts
will also be offered on beer and wine. Even deeper markdowns will follow beginning the
week of October 6, depending on remaining inventory. No rewards points, coupons, or
further discounts may be applied to sale items, and no advertised specials will be valid
during the closing period.

“Fishers was always more than a grocery store. it was a meeting place, a memory
maker, a community space and a friend to everyone,” Fisher added. “We are profoundly
grateful to Canton and Stark County,” Fisher said. “To our customers, teammates,
suppliers and community partners, thank you for 92 years of trust. Fishers has always
been about people. That part doesn’t end.”
